Born in Berkeley, California, Tammy was mostly raised in Monument, Colorado, a small town near Colorado Springs. She grew up Presbyterian and, as a young adult, was active in Young Life, where her faith and love for God deepened. Tammy graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in German Literature and Languages. Following college, she enrolled at Fuller Theological Seminary, where she continued to pursue her love for theology and her call to ministry. During seminary, she served for two years as a youth ministry intern at La Cañada Presbyterian Church while completing her Master of Divinity degree.
Tammy was first called and ordained as Co-Associate Pastor for Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, her home church. Since then, she has served in pastorates in California, Montana, Alaska, and Florida. Throughout her ministry, she has been active in Presbyterians for Renewal, the Network of Presbyterian Women in Leadership (NPWL), and Wee Kirk, a small-church conference ministry. She currently serves on the board of the Fellowship Community and has been actively involved in the Wyoming Presbytery, including serving one year as its Moderator.
Tammy was first introduced to the Jackson area during her tenure as a Parish Associate in West Yellowstone, Montana. After many years of vacationing in the region, she is grateful to now call Jackson home, where she has lived since September 2016. In 2025, she completed her Doctor of Ministry degree and now gratefully serves under the title Rev. Dr. Tammy Mitchell.
She is the mother of two adult daughters, Rebecca and Megan, and the proud grandmother of twin girls (Stella and Billie). Rebecca and her husband, Mark, live in Denver, Colorado; Rebecca is a crisis counselor and is pursuing a PhD in Educational Policy. Megan and her husband, Jay, live in Seattle, where Megan works as a music manager, and both she and Jay are professional musicians. Tammy enjoys skiing, hiking, horseback riding, camping, reading, fly fishing, and
