World Vision’s Chosen Experience at PCJH (Oct 24 – Nov 14)

Dear PCJH Family,

I am excited to announce that PCJH is partnering with World Vision to bring you the Chosen experience from October 24 through November 14 at the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole!  What is Chosen?  It is a 3-week experience as we learn, engage, and take action in serving the poor.  My hope is that this will draw us all closer to the heart of God, the work of Christ, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.  I would love for everyone connected to PCJH to take part in this Chosen experience, as I promise you it will change your life in some way, shape, or form.  Here’s what the 3-week Chosen experience will include:

Week 1: October 24, 2021
The Matthew 25 Challenge
On this Sunday we will launch the Chosen experience by participating in World Vision’s Matthew 25 Challenge.  We will learn about the challenges our brothers and sisters face who live in extreme poverty.  We will be moved by God’s heart for the poor and how Jesus commands us to care for the sick, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, visit the prisoner, and to clothe those in need of clothes.

During the week of October 24-30 we will encounter God’s word in community through a daily challenge that will come to us via text message.  The text message will have a challenge for the day (for example: skip lunch that day and break your fast with rice and beans for dinner) and a devotional message and prayer for you to reflect on together as a household.  Each subsequent day there will be another challenge to help us try and understand the plight of the poor and to break our hearts for what breaks the heart of God, so that we will be open to the Lord using us to serve the poor.  This will be a great experience for children and families too!

Week 2: October 31, 2021
Chosen Launch – Child Sponsorship Opportunity
On this Sunday my good friend Chad Erlenborn, from World Vision, will be with us.  Many of you might remember Chad from when he preached at PCJH this summer in August.  He is an excellent communicator and will be bringing God’s word to us this day.  We will all have the opportunity to start a relationship with a child from Mantambe, Eswatini in a unique form of sponsorship.  Instead of you choosing the child, the child will choose you.  Yes, the child will choose you!  We will take photos of you in the lobby this Sunday and they will be sent to the village of Mantambe.  Over the course of the next week, children in this Eswatinian village will be presented with photos of all of us from PCJH (those who have said “yes” to being Chosen) and the children will choose you to be their sponsor!  You have the opportunity to change a child’s life in a developing country that will make a lasting impact not only in the child’s life, but in their whole community.

Week 3: November 14, 2021
Chosen Reveal – Child Sponsorship Revealed
On this Sunday we will reveal which child chose which PCJH individual or family to be their sponsor (only those PCJH individuals and families who said “yes” to the child sponsorship opportunity will be chosen).  We will have a special message reminding us that not only has this child chosen you, but God has chosen you: dearly loved, for a unique purpose, as a child of the Most High.

This is going to be an amazing three weeks!  Please mark your calendars and worship with us these Sundays (whether in-person or livestream) and you will have the opportunity to participate in all of the above.  Invite some friends, especially friends who wouldn’t normally come to church.  You won’t want to miss this opportunity for God to transform your life and the lives of others.

In Christ,

-Ben Pascal
